RACE: Are we so different? is open to the public and is free. A tour takes anywhere between 20 minutes for young children and two hours for adults. This exhibit helps communities understand what race is and what it is not, and will offer individual visitors critical tools to recognize race and racism in their own lives.

Rick Lee is a Rochester native who has been involved in the local music scene for several years. His music lends a soft, jazzy interpretation to standards ranging from James Taylor to big band and the Beatles. He has been involved musically with many charitable organizations and local churches as well as Rochester Civic Theater. Audrey Rinkoski is a theater alumnus from Drake University and has performed extensively at the Vam York Theater in Florida and Rochester’s Civic Theater. Her smooth and alluring voice makes for a pleasant and memorable evening. Together, she and Rick create a soft and warm atmosphere.

The tower atop the Plummer Building downtown, houses the Rochester carillon. A variety of music is played during each carillon concert to reflect the diversity of the patients and visitors who come to Mayo Clinic. The Mayo brothers had a vision of innovative treatment for the body. With the addition of the Rochester Carillon, they also provided the tradition of wonderful music to soothe the heart and soul.

In the past few years Vancouver, Canada has been home to one of the most exciting and versatile African musicians anywhere, Guinean guitarist Alpha Yaya Diallo. With his intoxicating mix of timeless and contemporary sounds, Diallo’s live performances – whether solo or with his band Bafing – have become legendary. Diallo’s talents are diverse. His dexterous acoustic and electric guitar playing, with its fluid and compelling melodic lines, places him in the front ranks of African axemen. In addition he doubles with skill on balafon (a wooden xylophone) and on percussion.
